Naidu to hand over pattas, conveyance deeds to 28,000 families in Visakhapatnam

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will distribute house-site pattas and conveyance deeds to 28,000 eligible families in Visakhapatnam on Saturday, MP M. Sribharat said on Thursday.

Speaking at a press conference at the TDP office in the city, the MP said around 60,000 house-site pattas had been issued earlier, but many beneficiaries were still unable to sell their properties or secure bank loans for education, medical treatment and marriages because of technical problems and issues linked to the 22-A prohibited properties list.

The conveyance deeds are intended to give these families clear and legally enforceable ownership rights, so that the pattas do not remain mere documents but translate into genuine security of title, he said.

According to current market rates, the properties held by these families are valued at roughly ₹20,000 crore in total, with individual plots worth between about ₹10 lakh and ₹50 lakh depending on location and other factors. The MP said legally valid ownership rights would offer substantial economic security to poor and middle-income households.

Five projects to be launched

Five major infrastructure projects worth about ₹1,838 crore will be inaugurated or launched at the same programme. They are aimed at strengthening the city's drinking water supply and modernising its underground drainage system, with the government seeking to build urban infrastructure that meets Visakhapatnam's future needs and supports long-term growth.

Mr. Sribharat said the Velampeta Slum Redevelopment Project was being taken up as a model initiative to improve the quality of life of economically weaker section families. The project covers about 2,600 to 2,700 square yards and will be developed under a public-private partnership model, with a G+17 residential complex proposed. Each eligible family living in the area will receive a 410-square-foot flat free of cost, and the developer will be given transferable development rights as part of the arrangement.

The MP also made clear that illegal encroachments on government land and unauthorised trading in such land would not be permitted under any circumstances. Providing property rights to the poor, strengthening their economic security and developing Visakhapatnam's urban infrastructure to international standards remain key priorities, he said.
