Vizhinjam Port's First Export Vessel Sets Sail for Spain
MSC Beryl, the first export ship from Vizhinjam, departed for Valencia, Spain, with eight containers from Kerala.
Vizhinjam International Seaport has taken a significant step in its export journey. The first vessel carrying export cargo sourced from Kerala departed for Valencia, Spain, on Tuesday, September 1, 2026. The ship, identified as MSC Beryl, is part of the Mediterranean Shipping Company's (MSC) Himalaya service.
The vessel is carrying eight export containers, marking the first such shipment since the port launched full-fledged land-based export-import (EXIM) operations on August 18. Of these, two containers originated from Thiruvananthapuram, while the remaining six were transported by road from Kochi to Vizhinjam for this voyage.
Port authorities noted that the sailing was delayed from the initial EXIM launch due to the late arrival of the booked vessel. The ship is expected to reach Valencia in approximately 20 days, a journey that underscores Vizhinjam's expanding role as a gateway for Indian exporters.
This direct mainline shipping connection is seen as a boost for businesses in Kerala and neighboring regions, offering them streamlined access to global markets without the need for transshipment at other hubs.
