Mira Road Man Seeks CBI Probe Into Bhayander Land Dispute After Meeting PM
Asgarali Vohra, 81, met PM Modi on September 8 seeking a CBI probe into a Bhayander East land dispute dating back to a 1989 purchase.
An 81-year-old resident of Mira Road has sought a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into a long-running land dispute in Bhayander East, Mumbai, after meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 8.
Asgarali Vohra said he and the Prime Minister were schoolmates at BN School in Vadnagar, Gujarat. During the meeting, he asked for the Prime Minister's intervention, saying he had spent years pursuing the matter through government agencies and the police.
The dispute concerns roughly 2,810 square metres of land at Navghar in Bhayander East. Vohra said he bought the property through a registered agreement in 1989.
He has alleged that the land was encroached upon in 2011 and has named Swayam Builders and Seven Eleven Constructions in his complaint. Vohra further alleged that documents linked to the property were forged, that the original owner was not kept informed, and that the land was later split into two portions with possession shown in the names of the two construction entities. The matter is pending in court.
A police case was registered in connection with the dispute in 2015. Vohra said that despite lodging the complaint, he kept approaching revenue authorities, the municipal administration and police departments for a resolution.
The allegations have also drawn in BJP MLA Narendra Mehta, with Vohra claiming an association between Mehta and Seven Eleven Constructions.
After the meeting with the Prime Minister, the local administration has given the matter renewed attention. A hearing has been scheduled for September 16, and representatives of Swayam Builders and Seven Eleven Constructions have been directed to remain present.
Vohra said he hopes the meeting will help bring the decades-old dispute to a close.
