Warangal micro sculptor carves 150-micron Ganesha on a human hair
Micro sculptor Ajay Kumar Mattewada has created a 150-micron Ganesha on a single strand of human hair, a work that took about 30 hours.
A micro sculptor from Warangal has added another intricate work to his portfolio: a Ganesha standing just 150 microns tall, carved on a single strand of human hair roughly 100 microns thick.
The figure is detailed down to the chain around the deity's neck and a laddu held in one hand. According to the artist, Ajay Kumar Mattewada, the sculpture is visible clearly only under a microscope. Human hair, he noted, is generally about 80 to 100 microns in thickness.
The piece took around 30 hours to complete and is set to be unveiled on the eve of Vinayaka Chavithi.
A goldsmith by profession, Mattewada has spent more than four decades in micro art and has received recognition at both national and international levels.
This is not his first Vinayaka Chavithi offering. Last year, on the eve of the festival, he unveiled a miniature dancing Ganesha on the tip of an eyelash.
His other works include miniature sculptures of C. V. Raman, Vikram Sarabhai and A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, crafted inside the eye of a sewing needle. Those pieces were carried into space aboard Skyroot Aerospace's Vikram-1 rocket on July 18.
