Bengal Bypoll Calculus: Will Mamata Enter the Fray in Nandigram or Rejinagar?

West Bengal is bracing for by-elections on two assembly seats, a development that has reignited political speculation in the state. The vacancies have put the spotlight firmly on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, with observers questioning whether she will throw her hat into the ring this time around.

The first seat headed for a bypoll is Rejinagar. This constituency was vacated by Humayun Kabir, a legislator who had also secured a victory from the Naoda constituency in the previous election. His decision to relinquish the Rejinagar seat has created the need for a fresh electoral exercise there.

The second seat is Nandigram, which has been vacated by Suvendu Adhikari. The constituency holds particular political significance, having been the site of a high-stakes contest in the last assembly elections. With both seats now empty, the Election Commission is expected to announce schedules in due course.
