Bengal CM vows to uproot those raising anti-national slogans at Jadavpur

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday reiterated his commitment to "uproot" individuals raising slogans such as "Kashmir demands freedom" on the Jadavpur University (JU) campus. He also stated that any insult to the saffron colour would not be tolerated.

Mr. Adhikari was speaking to a gathering outside the campus after leading the 'Gerua Samman Yatra', a march from Golpark to Jadavpur. The procession saw participation from hundreds of saints and seers dressed in saffron, alongside thousands of supporters and several MLAs.

Addressing the crowd, the Chief Minister specifically referenced slogans like "Kashmir mange azaadi" and "red salute to Kishenji", as well as writings such as "gerua gundami" (saffron hooliganism). He warned that he would "rip out from their roots" those responsible for such acts.

This follows his recent call for an inquiry into alleged anti-national graffiti and posters that appeared on the JU campus after reported clashes between students of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad and Left-leaning groups like the Students' Federation of India.

Mr. Adhikari further stated his intention to return to Jadavpur twice—once to teach a lesson to those insulting saffron and the nation, and again to recite the Gita and the Hanuman Chalisa. He cautioned people to "think five times" before making offensive remarks about the saffron colour, asserting that the BJP government would not tolerate such insults.

In a separate development, Jadavpur University has removed Acting Registrar Selim Baksh Mondal and appointed Debjit Dutta as the interim Registrar. Indrajit Bandyopadhyay has been appointed as the Acting Finance Officer, replacing Shiladitya Chattopadhyay.
