West Bengal Shuffles 23 IPS Officers in Major Police Rejig
West Bengal transferred 23 IPS officers on Saturday, with STF IGP Sudheer Kumar Neelakantam appointed Additional Commissioner of Kolkata Police.
The West Bengal government has transferred 23 Indian Police Service officers in a single reshuffle, with changes spanning the Kolkata Police top brass, the Intelligence Bureau, and the state's detective and cyber wings.
According to a notification from the Home and Hill Affairs Department, Special Task Force IGP Sudheer Kumar Neelakantam will take over as Additional Commissioner of Kolkata Police, succeeding Devendra Prakash Singh. Mr. Singh has been moved to North Bengal as Inspector General of the Intelligence Bureau.
In a related swap, IB Deputy Inspector General Bholanath Pandey has been given charge as Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) in Kolkata. Surya Pratap Yadav, who held that post, will now serve as DIG of the IB.
Among other postings, Home Guard IG Shankha Shubhra Chakraborty has been appointed IG of the State Crime Record Bureau, while Security DIG Sukhendu Heera moves to Kolkata as Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic). Debarshi Dutta, DIG of the West Bengal Police Housing & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd, will be Joint Commissioner of Police, Bidhannagar.
The reshuffle also reshapes the Kolkata Police's detective and cyber units. Dhritiman Sarkar has been transferred as Superintendent of Police, Malda CID, and Arish Bilal has been posted as SP of West Bengal CID. Soumyadip Bhattacharya, currently commanding officer of SAP 1st Battalion, will be Deputy Commissioner of Police, Cyber-II, Kolkata. Sparsha Nilangi, Deputy Commissioner of the Kolkata Enforcement Branch, has been shifted to the Detective Department as DCP.
