SSB Teams Respond to Twin Landslides in West Sikkim, Residents Moved to Safety
Landslides hit Karmatar and Upper Bullung in West Sikkim, prompting an SSB-led rescue effort. No casualties were reported; a road remains blocked.
Landslides struck two locations in West Sikkim, prompting a coordinated response from security forces and local authorities, officials said on Tuesday.
At Karmatar village, a slide occurred beneath a local school at around 10:20 a.m. on Monday. Personnel at an SSB 'G' Company post at Intake spotted the movement and a disaster rescue team was dispatched to the site.
Working alongside the civil administration and local residents, the team evacuated people from a residential house located directly above the landslide zone. Officials said the move was taken as a precaution. No casualties or injuries were reported at Karmatar.
Separately, residents alerted the SSB to another landslide at Upper Bullung, where debris came down and blocked a road. The SSB company commander and the sub-divisional magistrate visited the affected area.
They reported that while the road remains closed to vehicular traffic, there have been no casualties and no property damage. Heavy earth-moving machinery has been requisitioned to clear the debris and restore movement, officials said.
