Traffic personnel and local residents in Whitefield took up temporary patchwork on damaged stretches of the Gunjur-Varthur area on Friday, a day after severe congestion paralysed east Bengaluru's roads.
The previous day's gridlock was triggered by a combination of ongoing civic works and poor road conditions. According to the traffic police, construction on State Highway 35, which runs between Varthur and Sarjapur Road, along with white-topping work on Gunjur Club Road, contributed to the snarls.
The impact was felt most acutely by schoolchildren. Hundreds of students were reportedly trapped in buses for more than two hours on Thursday, with delays reported even on routes as short as five kilometres. The situation drew sharp anger from parents.
On Friday, traffic officials and residents surveyed the stretch to identify locations that needed immediate attention, and began filling and repairing the worst-affected sections.
Police sources said conditions at the site are being monitored continuously, with traffic diversions being put in place as required.
