Wild Gaur Attack Claims Life of Man in Kozhikode Village
A 40-year-old man was fatally attacked by a wild gaur in Vilangad, Kozhikode, while assisting forest officials to chase it from farmland.
A tragic incident unfolded in Vilangad, Kozhikode district, on Saturday when a wild gaur attacked and killed a 40-year-old man. The victim has been identified as V.C. Sunil, a resident of Nadapuram. The attack occurred around noon when Sunil was assisting Forest department officials in an attempt to drive the animal away from a local agricultural field.
According to officials, the gaur had entered the farmland, prompting the response. Sunil, who was part of the group trying to shoo the animal back into the wild, was caught off guard when the gaur suddenly charged at him. He sustained severe injuries in the attack before he could escape.
Sunil was immediately rushed to the Kuttiady taluk hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. He was employed as a court employee in Chengannur and was visiting his native place for the Onam holidays at the time of the incident.
Local residents have expressed concern over the increasing frequency of wild gaur encroachments, which have become a major source of trouble for farmers in the area. They noted that power fences erected around vulnerable spots have proven ineffective in deterring the animals, highlighting the growing human-wildlife conflict in the region.
