Xi Jinping Arrives in US for Three-Day State Visit, Welcomed by Trump

Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived at Joint Base Andrews on Wednesday afternoon, opening a three-day state visit to the United States.

Xi was accompanied by his wife, Peng Liyuan. The two were met on arrival by U.S. President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump, who extended a rare planeside welcome at the Maryland military base.

The reception featured a gun salute and the playing of the national anthems of both countries. After disembarking, Xi and Peng waved to those present before greeting the Trumps and exchanging handshakes. Children presented bouquets to the visiting couple.

The two presidents then walked along a red carpet lined on both sides by a guard of honor, with the national flags of China and the United States on display. A limousine carrying Trump had earlier pulled up to the tarmac, where military personnel were also stationed.

The arrival marks the start of a three-day state visit, with the planeside ceremony underscoring the significance both sides have attached to the engagement.
