Xi arrives in Cairo for state visit, hails China-Egypt ties as model for Global South

Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Cairo on Tuesday for a state visit to Egypt, marking his first trip to the country in ten years. The visit coincides with the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

In a written statement released upon his arrival, Xi said China and Egypt have set an example of friendship, solidarity, and coordination between developing countries. He highlighted the strong political trust between the two governments, their fruitful mutually beneficial cooperation, and their close and effective coordination on multilateral issues.

Xi extended sincere greetings to the Egyptian government and people on behalf of China. He noted that both nations are ancient civilizations with a traditional friendship that has endured for thousands of years. Over the past seven decades, the two countries have supported each other and pursued win-win cooperation despite changes in the international and regional landscape.

The Chinese President said the two leaders have jointly guided the China-Egypt comprehensive strategic partnership toward leapfrog development in recent years. He described both countries as important members of the Global South, saying they should practice true multilateralism, uphold international fairness and justice, and safeguard the common interests of developing countries.

During the visit, Xi is scheduled to hold in-depth talks with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on bilateral relations, all-round cooperation, and international and regional issues of mutual concern. The two leaders are expected to draw up a blueprint for the future development of their comprehensive strategic partnership.
