Seven held in Yadgir forest raid; country-made guns, poached animals seized
Seven men were arrested in Yadgir for poaching inside a reserved forest; officials seized country-made guns, two peacock remains, turtles and crabs.
Seven people were arrested in Yadgir district on Saturday for allegedly poaching wild animals inside a reserved forest area, the Yadgir Regional Forest Division said.
The raid, carried out on the basis of specific intelligence, targeted Survey No. 30 of the Baggalamadu Section-4 forest area in the Motnalli beat of the Arakera (K) branch, where the accused had trespassed illegally.
Those held were Ningappa, Vasudev, Kariyappa, Yallappa, Basappa and Mallappa, all residents of Bhimanahalli in Chittapur taluk, along with Kantappa, a native of Allur (B) village in the same taluk.
Officials seized the remains of two peacocks that had been hunted and burnt, two live turtles and 12 live crabs. Six country-made guns and ammunition were also recovered from the accused.
A case has been registered under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. Officials reiterated that hunting wildlife is a punishable offence.
After preliminary interrogation, all seven accused were produced before a court on Saturday and remanded in judicial custody.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Deputy Conservator of Forests Annaraya B. Patil and led by Assistant Conservator of Forests Ramesh. The raiding team included Range Forest Officer Buranuddin, Deputy Range Forest Officers Manjunath Handral and Kashappa, and Beat Forest Officers Devaraja and Siddanna.
