Yathindra calls BJP leaders 'vultures' over communal politics, defends Narsipur inspector
Karnataka Minister Yathindra Siddaramaiah accused BJP leaders of exploiting communal trouble for political gain and defended a police inspector criticised over Ganesha procession advice.
Karnataka Urban Development Minister Yathindra Siddaramaiah on Wednesday compared BJP leaders to "vultures", accusing them of drawing political advantage from communal trouble and deaths.
Speaking to reporters in Mysuru, he alleged that BJP leaders make it a point to visit locations where communal violence has broken out and then seek to turn such incidents to their political benefit. He said studies had indicated that the BJP gained politically in areas affected by communal violence.
The Minister said the opposition was avoiding the legislature, where drought and drinking water problems could be discussed. He alleged that despite several issues affecting the public, the BJP was focused on manufacturing communal trouble where none existed.
Inspector defended
Mr. Yathindra also came to the defence of T. Narsipur Police Inspector Dhananjaya, who has drawn criticism from BJP leaders. He said the inspector had merely advised youngsters preparing for a Ganesha idol immersion procession to take precautionary measures.
According to the Minister, the BJP was twisting that advice and giving it a communal colour. Referring to the inspector's caution against bursting crackers in front of a mosque, Mr. Yathindra asked why crackers should be burst in front of any place of worship, adding that the principle applied to all religions.
He urged BJP leaders demanding action against the inspector to watch the full video of the advice given to the youngsters.
