Yathindra directs Mysuru civic bodies to expedite e-khata rollout, boost revenue
Minister Yathindra Siddaramaiah directs MCC and urban local bodies to speed up e-khata issuance, map properties, recover dues, and plan vendor spaces.
Urban Development Minister Yathindra Siddaramaiah, who also holds charge of Mysuru district, has instructed the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) and other urban local bodies to accelerate the distribution of e-khatas to property owners. The directive was issued during a review meeting held at the MCC office on Friday.
The Minister emphasized the need for complete mapping of all properties within the MCC limits to facilitate accurate property tax assessment and collection. He also advised the civic body to periodically revise the rents of markets and commercial establishments under its jurisdiction to enhance revenue generation.
Addressing the issue of pending dues, Mr. Siddaramaiah noted that several commercial establishments have not paid property tax since 2011. He directed officials to issue notices and take action as per rules against all commercial entities that have defaulted on tax payments for two years or more.
On the matter of street vendors, the Minister called for identifying alternative spaces for them to operate. As evictions are being carried out to clear footpaths for pedestrians, he suggested that the MCC consult with city MLAs, identify suitable locations zone-wise, and prepare plans for developing commercial complexes, food streets, and markets where vendors can sell their goods.
During the meeting, Narasimharaja MLA Tanveer Sait highlighted discrepancies where individuals who signed rental agreements with the MCC differ from those currently running businesses at the premises, calling for rectification. Chamundeshwari MLA G.T. Devegowda pointed to the rising number of vehicles and growing parking problems, recommending multi-level parking facilities in every layout. Chamaraja MLA K. Harish Gowda raised concerns about residents of small houses facing water bill arrears amounting to lakhs of rupees, seeking a viable solution.
The meeting was attended by Mysuru-Kodagu MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, Krishnaraja MLA T.S. Srivatsa, Legislative Council members D. Thimmaiah, Vivekananda K., and R. Raghu, Guarantee Schemes Implementation Committee chairperson Pushpavalli, Deputy Commissioner G. Lakshmikantha Reddy, MCC Commissioner M.K. Savitha, and other officials.
