Houthis Show Rubble Rescue at Bombed Yemen Prison in Al-Jawf
Houthi-linked television has aired footage of rescue work at a bombed prison in Al-Hazm, capital of Yemen's Al-Jawf governorate, as the country's civil war intensifies.
Footage released by Yemen's Houthi movement shows search efforts under way for survivors after an airstrike hit a prison in Al-Hazm, the capital of the northwestern Al-Jawf governorate.
The material, broadcast by the Houthi-controlled Al-Masirah television channel, showed men picking through the wreckage of the destroyed facility while heavy machinery was brought in to clear debris. Other scenes showed injured prisoners being brought to a hospital and receiving medical treatment.
The strike is the latest episode in a conflict that has reignited between the Houthis and forces backed by Saudi Arabia, with the renewed fighting also leading to attacks on Saudi territory.
The Houthis first moved out of their northern stronghold and seized the capital, Sanaa, in September 2014, prompting the country's government to flee south and later into exile in Saudi Arabia. The following year, Saudi Arabia assembled a multinational coalition that entered the war with the aim of restoring the government.
As part of its military campaign, the coalition imposed an air and sea blockade on areas held by the Houthis.
