Yemeni forces release video of strikes on Houthi positions in Hazm

Yemen's Saudi-backed government forces have released video footage that they say shows their troops striking Houthi fortifications in the eastern city of Hazm, in Jawf province.

The footage, issued by the army media office, shows aerial views of what the armed forces described as targets being hit, with explosions and smoke rising from the area. The material was broadcast by the Yemeni armed forces and could not be independently verified for date, location or the conditions in which it was filmed.

The release comes as the conflict between the Houthis and Yemen's Saudi-backed government has reignited. The Houthis have launched missile and drone strikes toward Saudi Arabia, including one aimed at Riyadh on Saturday that was intercepted.

The group has also declared a blockade on Saudi shipping in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait and the Red Sea, attacking vessels and oil facilities linked to the kingdom, the world's top oil exporter.

Earlier this month, the Houthis advanced inside Yemen, seizing the key port city of Mokha and strategic Red Sea islands. Those gains give the group better ability to monitor shipping traffic through the Bab el-Mandeb, a chokepoint through which roughly 12 percent of world trade normally passes.
