Yogi Adityanath Slams Rahul Gandhi's Manusmriti Remarks, Calls Him Out of Touch

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched a sharp attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday, accusing him of deliberately disparaging India's traditions and heritage. Speaking at an event in Raebareli, Adityanath referenced Gandhi's recent remarks on the Manusmriti, made during a student interaction in Pune, where the Leader of the Opposition urged women to break free from patriarchal norms.

Adityanath questioned Gandhi's accountability, stating that while the country has no expectations from him as an individual, his role as Leader of the Opposition demands a commitment to the Constitution. He alleged that Gandhi considers it his birthright to insult Indian traditions, pointing to his comments on the ancient legal text.

At the Pune event, Gandhi had quoted Manusmriti's prescriptions regarding a woman's dependence on male relatives—father in youth, husband in adulthood, and son in old age. He argued that women belong to themselves and not to any male relative, calling the traditional framework shameful.

Countering this, Adityanath posed a series of rhetorical questions, asking whether any man's life is untouched by the protection of a mother, sister, wife, or daughter. He further accused Gandhi of insulting the army, questioning the existence of Lord Ram, and encouraging anti-national elements.

The UP CM also advised Gandhi to study the Atharvaveda, Shatapatha Brahmana, and Matsya Purana to understand the true essence of Manu's teachings. The BJP has dismissed Gandhi's event as a "political comedy show," with party leaders accusing him of avoiding substantive student issues.
