The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has accused the Andhra Pradesh government of orchestrating restrictions on its social media presence in an apparent bid to mute criticism over the District Selection Committee (DSC) teacher recruitment process.
Speaking to reporters in Tadepalli on Sunday, party spokesperson Putta Siva Shankar alleged that the clampdown followed the party's sustained campaign highlighting purported irregularities in the recruitment drive. He pointed to the alleged appointment of a candidate who did not appear for the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET), deviations from reservation norms, and issues surrounding the sports quota as key points of public debate.
According to Mr. Siva Shankar, as the criticism gained traction, the State Cyber Crime Wing approached Meta, leading to restrictions on accounts associated with the YSRCP, its supporters, and a media house.
The spokesperson asserted that the restrictions would not deter the party from pursuing the matter. He said the YSRCP would take its campaign to other platforms and approach Meta seeking restoration of the affected accounts. The party also plans to extend legal assistance to its supporters and social media influencers whose accounts were blocked.
