YSRCP Vizianagaram district chief Majji Srinivasa Rao switches to TDP

YSRCP Vizianagaram district president Majji Srinivasa Rao resigned and joined TDP with his daughter, ahead of local body polls.

In a significant political development in Andhra Pradesh, Majji Srinivasa Rao, the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president for Vizianagaram district and Chairperson of the Zilla Parishad, has joined the Telugu Desam Party (TDP). He made the switch on Tuesday at the Chief Minister's camp office, where TDP chief N. Chandrababu Naidu welcomed him into the party fold by draping the party scarf around him.

Mr. Srinivasa Rao's daughter, Siri Sahasra, also joined the TDP during the same event and was welcomed by the Chief Minister.

Earlier in the day, Mr. Srinivasa Rao submitted his resignation to former Chief Minister and YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, citing personal reasons. He also stepped down from his role as the party's in-charge for the Bhimili assembly constituency.

Sources indicate that Mr. Srinivasa Rao, who belongs to the Kapu community, had developed differences with his uncle, Botcha Satyanarayana, a former Minister and the Leader of the Opposition in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council. His move is seen as strategically timed ahead of the upcoming local body elections.

Mr. Srinivasa Rao was instrumental in the YSRCP's sweeping victory in the 2019 local body polls in Vizianagaram district, during which the party captured all 34 Zilla Praja Parishad Territorial Constituency (ZPTC) seats and over 90 percent of the Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituency (MPTC) seats.
