Yung Filly faces retrial on three rape charges in Australia

British rapper Yung Filly will be retried on three rape charges in Australia after a jury failed to reach verdicts.

British social media personality and rapper Yung Filly is set to stand trial for a second time on three rape charges in Australia, following a hung jury on those counts in his first trial.

The 30-year-old entertainer, whose legal name is Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos, appeared in the District Court of Western Australia on Friday, where prosecutors confirmed their intention to retry him. The charges stem from an alleged incident in a Perth hotel room in September 2024, after he had performed in the city as part of an Australian tour.

The first trial, which lasted eight days, concluded last month. The jury found Barrientos guilty of two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm against the woman, who was 20 at the time. He was acquitted of one charge of choking and four of seven rape charges. However, the jury could not reach the required majority verdict of at least 10 out of 12 jurors on the remaining three rape counts.

Prosecutor Danielle Clarke informed the court that the alleged victim, who cannot be identified under Australian law, is willing to testify again in the retrial. No date has yet been set for the new proceedings.

Barrientos, who is of Colombian origin, has been free on bail since his arrest and was permitted to return to Britain for several months. He left the courthouse on Friday without commenting to reporters.

The prosecution has alleged that the woman initially consented to sex but later withdrew that consent due to fears for her safety. Barrientos was arrested in Brisbane several days after the alleged incident, where his tour was scheduled to conclude.

Sentencing for the assault convictions will take place after the retrial is concluded.
