Student detained after stabbing two people at Zagreb high school
A student stabbed and wounded a fellow pupil and a janitor at a Zagreb high school on Friday. The attacker was detained.
A student at a high school in Zagreb stabbed and wounded two people on Friday, according to authorities, before being taken into custody.
The attacker used a sharp object in the incident, Croatia's Ministry of Education said. Those wounded were another student and a janitor at the school.
The student who was stabbed underwent surgery for multiple wounds and was reported to be out of danger. The school employee sustained injuries to the face.
Local reporting indicated the attack followed a disagreement between the two students a day earlier. Footage from the scene showed the building cordoned off while police carried out an investigation.
The incident comes after a knife attack in December 2024, when a former student entered a Zagreb school, killed a seven-year-old girl and wounded three other children and their teacher. That assailant was convicted and given a 50-year prison sentence. In the wake of that attack, schools in Zagreb and other areas brought in guards to control access to their premises.
