Zaporizhzhia Mall Engulfed in Flames After Overnight Russian Attack
A Russian strike sparked a 700 sq m fire at a Zaporizhzhia mall; no casualties reported as regional attacks continue.
Firefighters in Zaporizhzhia worked through the night to extinguish a major blaze at a shopping mall, ignited by a Russian strike that hit the city early Monday. The fire spread across roughly 700 square metres, according to Ukraine's State Emergency Service, with crews battling flames and debris at the scene.
No casualties have been reported from the mall fire itself. However, the broader assault on the region was intense and widespread. Ivan Fedorov, head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, reported that Russian forces struck 53 settlements across the area 806 times over the past day.
The attacks comprised 24 airstrikes, 614 drone strikes, nine multiple-launch rocket system attacks, and 159 artillery bombardments. These strikes resulted in injuries to four people across the region, though further details on those incidents were not immediately available.
The mall fire is the latest in a series of attacks targeting civilian infrastructure in the region, which has faced relentless bombardment. Emergency services remain on site to manage hotspots and assess the damage caused by the overnight assault.
