Zelenskyy orders probe into Kyiv region blasts, flags Russian drone onslaught
Zelenskyy announces investigation into Kyiv region explosions and details a four-day Russian drone campaign involving nearly 1,500 drones.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has confirmed that an investigation is underway into explosions at ammunition and weapons storage sites in the Kyiv region, stating that such facilities should never have been located in the area. He made the remarks on Sunday following discussions with the Prosecutor General, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the Security Service of Ukraine.
"Such places definitely should not have been there," Zelenskyy said, adding that all circumstances surrounding the incident must be clarified. The statement comes amid heightened security concerns in the Buchach district of the Kyiv region.
In a separate update, Zelenskyy detailed the scale of Russia's recent aerial campaign, accusing Moscow of attempting to exhaust the Ukrainian people. He reported that nearly 1,500 drones of various types had been launched over the past four days, with approximately 800 of them being jet-powered.
Zelenskyy highlighted the particular challenge posed by jet drones, noting that combat aviation is currently the primary defence against them. He said efforts are underway to secure necessary interceptors, and called on the Ministry of Defense and the military to maximise their capabilities to shoot down every type of Russian drone.
