Zelenskyy, Belgian FM Hold Talks in Kyiv on EU Bid, Frozen Assets
Zelenskyy met Belgian FM Prevot in Kyiv to discuss EU membership, military aid, and frozen Russian assets.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy received Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot in Kyiv on Tuesday for talks covering a range of strategic issues, including Ukraine's European Union accession bid and the management of frozen Russian assets.
Officials said the meeting focused on strengthening Ukraine's position in its ongoing conflict with Russia and deepening its institutional ties with Brussels. Military assistance packages were also on the agenda, with Ukraine continuing to press its European allies for more weapons, ammunition, and air defense systems.
A key point of discussion was the handling of Russian assets frozen under sanctions imposed following Moscow's full-scale invasion in February 2022. Zelenskyy highlighted the importance of a previously announced 90-billion-euro package, noting that the topic of frozen assets would remain a priority until the end of the war.
The Ukrainian leader also expressed hope for involving Belgian businesses in Ukraine's post-war recovery process. Belgium has been a consistent supporter of Ukraine since the invasion began, providing both military and other forms of assistance.
The meeting comes as Ukraine continues to seek firmer commitments from its European partners on both security guarantees and a clear path toward EU membership.
