Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has proposed a limited ceasefire framework aimed at creating a conducive environment for diplomatic engagement. In his evening address, he declared that Ukraine would refrain from launching airstrikes, contingent on Russia observing a reciprocal halt to its own aerial operations for the duration of the negotiations.
"There will be no airstrikes on our part, and Russia must reciprocally ensure a ceasefire — without its own airstrikes — for the duration needed to conduct these talks," Zelenskyy stated.
The proposal comes as American envoys are reportedly travelling to the region to discuss a potential peace plan. The Ukrainian leader's offer appears designed to de-escalate hostilities in the air domain, potentially paving the way for more substantive discussions on ending the conflict.
The initiative underscores Kyiv's willingness to explore diplomatic channels while maintaining a defensive posture on the ground. It remains unclear whether Moscow will accept the terms of the proposed aerial truce.
