Zelenskyy meets Vucic in Belgrade for bilateral talks
Zelenskyy and Vucic discuss energy, infrastructure, and economic ties in Belgrade, marking a significant diplomatic engagement.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held bilateral talks with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic in Belgrade on Saturday, marking his first official visit to the Serbian capital.
The discussions centered on energy cooperation, infrastructure development — including ports and railways in both countries — as well as economic growth, reconstruction efforts, and job creation, according to a statement from Zelenskyy on social media.
Zelenskyy arrived in Belgrade on Friday for the visit. Serbia remains one of the few European nations that has preserved friendly relations with Russia since its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
The meeting comes as Vucic navigates a delicate balancing act between Serbia's longstanding ties with Moscow and growing pressure to align its foreign policy with the European Union.
Serbia has so far declined to join international sanctions against Russia over the war in Ukraine, with Vucic citing the historical and cultural bonds between the two Slavic nations.
The visit underscores the evolving diplomatic landscape in the Balkans as European countries reassess their positions amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
