Supreme Court clarifies stance on interpretation of 'industry' under new labour code

The Supreme Court has clarified that the definition of 'industry' under the Industrial Relations Code will be assessed based on its own text and context. According to the court, the provisions of the new labour code should be understood in its own perspective. Notably, an earlier court ruling from 1978 had granted workers across various sectors legal remedies and the right to collective bargaining against unfair labour practices by employers.
